Oh My English

I love it so much when Astro comes up with the Oh My English series. The clips are so catchy.

Lil Adam suka sangat yang "Open the Fan" tu.

Paling aku suka, yang student nak minta chop tu. Memang terbaekkkk lah! Sebab banyak sangat students aku yang masih guna such terms.

"PUAN, NAK MINTAK CHOP."

"MADAM, TOLONG CHOP SURAT NI BOLEH TAK?"

Aku pernah terfikir nak bawak pisau pemotong daging je dan "chop"  betul-betul dokumen diorang yang datang minta chop. But my main concern is... WHAT IF THEY DON'T GET THE JOKE? (Hahaha. So lame!).

Lagipun, aku kan berhati mulia (aicehhh)... Kang dah aku betul-betul CHOP surat/borang/dokumen diorang tu macam Harun Salim Bachik buat tu, kesian la pulak dia nak kena print/fotostat balik. Hahaha.

Kena pulak kalau kena dekat budak yang jenis 'benteng akhir-negara-yang-cas-hebat-memperjuangkan-hak'... sikit-sikit mengadu kat FB Dato VC.

Dah la tak nak admit kebodohan sendiri, ada hati nak tunjuk kerek. Duhhh.. IPT students nowadays!!!

Satu hal la jugak.. sebab sesetengah dokumen rasmi pun memang masih tulis 'tandatangan dan chop rasmi'.

Chop ni is actually perkataan dari Bahasa Cina. Agaknya it is awkward to use the correct terms---setem/ stamp... Sebab nanti ada orang ingat kena beli setem kat Pos Malaysia pulak. Haru.

Aku suka sarcastic guna ayat "What croc/clock now?" bila sembang dengan DrWan, to actually ask "What time is it/What's the time now?"...sekadar nak perli orang tertentu je.

Heh.

Lagi satu... Lately aku tengok ramai orang suka guna ayat "I is..."

(e.g. I is happy. I is on the way to the party).

Bajet cute la tu...

Cuba korang bayangkan kalau aku pun gedix nak bajet cute dan buat ayat "I IS ISABELLE IS." Confusing kan?

#Tetiba teringat Jiji's (my ex-student cum adik angkat) tele-conversation with her Mama masa kitorang keluar lunch.

Jiji: I'm going out with my lecturer. Alaaa.. my supervisor.

Mama: Is she Is?

Jiji: Yes, she is Is.

And..it left Ayah yang tengah dengar conversation tu jadi blur/confused.

Ayah: Who is Is?

...and Mama had a hard time explaining to him..

Well, maybe Astro should post other clips too. Yang common disalahgunakan... e.g the use of

-THAT'S MEAN (you are the mean one, for using broken English)

-MORE BETTER (dah more, better lagi.

-BORING (oh pls,get a life)

-CONGRATES (bajet cool la pendekkan terms? Salah la wei)

  6. btw, exerMAIN tu i refer kat org yg pernah dlm opis i nak ckp 'examine'. lebih parah lg bila refer to examiner as 'exeMINER'. kan ke mcm dah nak pegi melombong dah tu... hihih.

tp i rasa masalah english is ni besar, not just grammar. diction and stress is another issue. for instance, i dulu struggle nak sebut 'development'. i selalu sebut the msian way 'DEH-VELOPMENT', where it should have been pronounced as 'DIVELOPMENT' (laju, one word).

and it doesn't stop there. isu cultural pon ye jgk, especially kalo 100% translate from malay to english. i have had msians asking my daughter, 'where do you stay?' when she'd meant, 'where do you live?'.

but at least Astro dah start somewhere. syabas utk Astro, or shall i say, 'CONGRATES Astro!!' (ye, congrates, sila lempang se-das skang hehhe)
